The 11-1-176-1 link separating tool has been the go to for rigging shops for decades to separate L bar and U bar parachute connecting links such as PS22002-1
This tool works. BUT, it's expensive ($400-$1,200 dollars) meaning it's hard to own multiple, it only works on a table top or flap surface, it doesn't allow disconnecting of links in tight spaces, it's not easy to transport or pack into a portable rigging kit (2 lbs), and it's bound by MIL-SPEC MIL-DTL-43243.
Check out 82 Innovation's tools that do the same function plus more.
Contact if you are looking for 11-1-176-1 manufactured or produced in large quantities. We think the tools below are better but we understand if you require the 11-1-176.
82 INNOVATIONS has designed a parachute link connector separator tool that is 1/4 the price, is lighter, doesn't require a flat working surface for use, packs and transports easier, and is generally an easier product to use for separating parachute connecting links. Performs better than separator tool P/N 11-1-176-1 , NSN 1670-00-072-4941 , or MILS43243 . Separates H359 and MS22021 separable links "11-1-176-1".
THIN SLICE is named after Project Thin Slice, one of the projects to specially modify C-130 for special operations. The THIN SLICE is an alternative to the 11-1-176-1, and is arguably a better tool.
Taking orders now. Bulk orders can get a reduced price. This product is not attached to a MIL-SPEC so it does not have to meet strict requirements that drive up the price.
Comes with a small carrying case and a full set of Craftsman Offset Screwdrivers (Phillips and Flat head) to unscrew all styles
Why choose the 82 Innovations Parachute Link Separator Tool over the 11-1-176-1?
1. It's affordable, 1/3 or 1/4 (depending on where you order a 11-1-176-1 from) the price means you can get more tools for your shop.
2. Its packable. This tool fits in tool bags, rigger kits, etc.
3. Lightweight! Aluminum construction (total weight 3.9 ounces).
4. It works without a flat surface. Need to disconnect a link that is attached to equipment? Need to reach into a tight area to do it? Our tool does it.
These will come with minor scuffs at the tool end. I test each one of these on L-bar and U-bar links before packaging them.
These are handmade in USA, they are not perfect or without tooling marks. Trying to avoid the Made in China factories.
Perfect for military rigging units that have mobile kits. Weighs only 3.8 ounces verse 2 pounds for the 11-1-176-1. Carry and pack 8 Thin Slice tools for the same weight of a single 11-1-176-1.

Parachute tension device for parachutes with L-Bar or U-Bar connector links. Utilizes a hook style attachment point to prevent the dreaded L-Bar slip-off that happens, occasionally, during tensioning. Slip L-Bar/U-Bars into the hooks, once tension begins to be applied they cannot slip off. Made of aluminum and small enough to pack into small rigging kits.
Hook style prevents the dreaded "slip-off" that can occur with other tension devices. No need to put packing weights or ties onto this tension device. L-Bars/U-Bars cannot slip off once tension is applied.
Made from aluminum.
Strong enough to apply plenty of tension to parachutes but light enough to be included in mobile kits.

The 11-1-176-1 is a great tool for tabletop rigging. We believe the V1, V2, and V3 are all better tools for separating links because we rarely need to separate links in a perfect environment and the 11-1-176-1 tool makes you bring the parachute to the tool instead of the tool to the parachute. 11-1-176-1 is a tool that will be around as long a L and U bar links are, at least in the US Military. Why? Because the 11-1-176-1 has a MIL-SPEC and NSN
Want a tabletop link style separator like the 11-1-176-1 but without the price? Want a link separator that is mounted to your table so it doesn't grow legs? This is it.
Production version will have a micarta base, countersunk fasteners, improved pivot point location, and steel pivet pin.
Bare tool without base. If you want to make your own base or so you can mount the link separator to a table, workbench, tool box, etc
The drawings that make a 11-1-176-1 meet the MIL-SPEC are way over designed. Specialty spring, brazing, aluminum welding, etc, etc. The reason the 11-1-176-1 is so expensive? Because the MIL-SPEC is ridiculous. 82 Innovations is making a low cost version that looks and functions the same, but without all the unnecessary things that make the 11-1-176-1 so expensive.
